Assertion Analysis Essay #1 The American Dream

America has always been viewed as the land of the free where opportunities are given that can change a persons life within a split second. Many people migrate to America anticipating the country to be paradise where life is abundantly finer and superior. A place where you get a chance to strain yourself to a much higher social and economic status living free and yearning for a preferable life. This is the American Dream. As for author John Green, he believes The American Dream is fictitious and is insignificant as for one losing their virginity in a woman's bathroom.

Before all else, John Green examines The American Dream is irrelevant making a contempous ridicule. This all starts just in the beginning of the quote where Green commences with "Lady and gentleman," setting a peculiar atmosphere. Afterwards, he explains how his parents left Korea and leaving their "considerable wealth" which is quite ironic due to the fact that people move to America to be prosperous. With that being said, Green is ironically suggesting that there's no good on moving to America and sacrificing so much just to move to an inconvenient country. Green then sarcastically states that his parents "American Dream" is for him to have sex with a cheerleader in a woman's bathroom in a Waffle House off the interstate. This simply validates that The American Dream is a joke and or is simply false. Furthermore, he uses hyperbole where he states, "My parents have sacrificed so much for this dream!" loosely saying that all America has to offer is nothing but cheerleader sex.

Throughout the whole quote, Green is constantly making a mockery out of it. This can quickly trigger certain people who have actually succeeded here in America. The American Dream isn't going to be easily handed to you. You have to work your way up to whatever class you long to be comfortable in and take advantage of opportunities that will most certainly have you live The ultimate American Dream.
